Welcome to The Meadows, Wokingham Borough's only local authority maintained nursery school for children aged 3 to 5 years.
The Ambleside Centre aims to offer a seamless service of education, childcare and support for children aged 0 to 5 years and their families together with training and support for practitioners across the district.
The Centre celebrates diversity, is committed to the inclusion and equality of all and uses a problem solving approach to meet individual needs.
Early Years Pupil Premium can apply to children in Meadows.
Our fees for any paid for sessions in Meadows are increased annually. New fees in Meadows will be appliable from Monday 16th April. Details of actual fees will be published here as soon as possible.
Admissions to The Meadows
We have three admissions intakes per year – September, January and April. Please note that we usually have a very limited number of places available in April due to the Primary School Admission process which has one single intake in September.
You can apply at any time – please call in to fill out an application form. Please note you should bring along your child’s original birth certificate and proof of your address (eg a utility or tax bill in parents name).

We are required by the local authority to offer places as follows:
Applications received after the deadline will be considered once all places have been allocated for the appropriate term.

Our Meadows nursery offers:
- Experienced and highly qualified staff.
- Care, learning and development for children aged 3 to 5 years
- We offer 15 hours of flexibly funded education for children aged 3 to 5 years
- We can also offer the additional 15 funded hours for families with working parents
With your initial universal funding (15 hours) you must take at least one core session of 3 hours over at least 3 days per week.
Some families with working parents may qualify for a further 15 funded hours. Please speak with Reception if you think you may qualify.

- Funded sessions for 156 children
- 15 hours or up to 30 hours of funded education per week term time only (or between 15 and 23 hours per week stretched across 48 weeks of the year)
- Opportunity to purchase additional sessions between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm.
- School Holiday Childcare
- Available for visits by practitioners for observation, discussion and support
- Resource for the Hearing Impaired
- Acoustically treated environment Teacher of the deaf
- British Sign Language trained staff
- Childcare Vouchers/Tax Free Childcare may be used to help towards costs.

Parents can apply for an additional 15 hours of funded childcare and education, totalling 30 hours per week term time only. If eligible, parents can therefore choose 30 hours of funded education between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday (over a minimum of 3 days per week). A limited number of stretched places (23 hours over 48 weeks) are also available.

Childcare vouchers may be used to help towards costs:
